Transforming Potential Into Reality

July 13th, 2016 Debra Mann

Live the Song In Your HeartI love music!  I love recording it. I love singing and playing it, writing and performing it, sharing it with others, teaching it, talking about it, and . . . well, you get the idea. It’s something I’ve been doing for a long time and, as a result, have developed some skill at.

It’s been several years since I released my last recording, Home, and long overdue for me to record a new one. However, I really don’t want to go into debt to fulfill that desire.  Several fellow-musicians that I know have successfully raised funds for their recordings through crowdfunding.

What is crowdfunding? Essentially, it is a fan-based fund-raiser to support an artist’s project.  I’ve backed several of these projects.  It’s a fun thing to do, actually. You even get some nice perks when you do so.  I began thinking that perhaps I might like to do something like that.

You can back this project until 7/22/16 at midnight

Fast forward six months, after awakening my lazy bones, I am smack in the middle of my very own Kickstarter crowdfunding campaign to record a new CD. A lot of thought and hard work goes into doing a crowdfunding campaign. It’s been almost a full-time job for me, but totally worth it. Thanks to my supporters, I have successfully funded my initial goal amount. I am incredibly grateful to all of my backers who are making it possible for me to realize my vision.

I now have nine days left to my campaign, which ends on July 22, 2016 at midnight. That means it’s not too late for you to get on board as a backer.  Debra Mann’s Kickstarter

I am so excited to finally be making preparations to record, again.  Just as soon as the campaign ends, I will head into the studio with my band.  We will be recording the music that we’ve been playing together for the past five years, paying tribute to the brilliant artist and musician, Joni Mitchell.

Watching this all come together has been a really incredible experience for me, an amazing journey of transforming the potential of an idea, in my mind and heart, into reality.

It seems to me, that when we finally do what’s in our hearts to do, we find that we somehow knew that we were capable of doing it all along.  But, until we actually do it, there is uncertainty and doubt. Questions. Frustrations. Unfulfilled longings.  And, nothing, and no one, can do anything about it until we show up for ourselves and be who we are meant to be, and do what we are meant to do.

It reminds me of the line in the The Wizard of Oz, after Dorothy misses her balloon ride back to Kansas.  Glinda the Good Witch says to Dorothy, “You’ve always had the power . ..  She had to learn it for herself.”  Thanks, Glinda!  You’ve got to love a woman who travels around in a great big bubble.Female Vocalist Jazz Pianist and Singer in Barrington Rhode Island
